Cell Division: MITOSIS and Cytokinesis

Product Description  Reviews
Computer animation illustrates Cell Division: MITOSIS and Cytokinesis in a clear and understandable way. The video is well organized for learning the basics and the terminology of cell division. Recommended for beginning biology students.

Lesson One provides general information about the three types of cell division -- mitosis, meiosis, and binary fission -- and relates these processes to eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. The subject then turns specifically to mitosis: the cell division process through which single-celled eukaryotic organisms reproduce; and through which multi-cellular organisms develop, grow, and replace damaged or worn-out body cells.
Lesson Two explains that mitosis is part of the eukaryotic life cycle, events that occur in each stage of the cellular life cycle, and the relationship of these events to mitosis are described. A brief discussion of G0 is included.
Lesson Three details the four phases of mitosis, and cytokinesis. Live action footage shows an actual cell dividing, followed by detailed animations and explanations depicting the key occurrences in prophase, anaphase, metaphase, telophase, and cytokinesis. How these processes differ in animal and plant cells are explained.
